America's Best Dance Crew features SYTYCDC Alumni

Montreal-based Blueprint Cru, featuring So you Think You Can Dance Canada alumni Vincent Noiseux (Season 1 Top 8) and Nicolas Bégin (Season 2 Top 16) have made it to the Top 4 on America’s Best Dance Crew after beating out the jump-rope dance cre Saltare last week.

Original BluPrint Cru member and Top 8 SYTYCDC dancer Kim Gingras is hoping for the win.

“Top 4 is insane,” Kim says. “At first, it was just about auditioning, and then it was about making it past Regionals and getting onto the show. Top 4 seemed so far away, and all of a sudden, we’re here.

“It’s a hard competition. All of the teams are really good!”

I have watched ABDC since the beginning and this season has been quite interesting. I am, of course rooting for BluPrint Cru, however, I think their #1 Competition is the very awesome Poreotix.

Tune in to watch the final 4 battle it out – Check local listing, Canadians will find it on Much Music, American’swill find it on MTV.

I am a blogger and reality tv lover. I blog here for SYTYCD but mostly the Canada version, since I live in Vancouver BC. I also blog about other reality tv shows on my own blog www.mandysmind.com

SYTYCD – McPhee’s All-Star Picks

I have watched every episode of SYTYCD Seasons 1-6 including Canada, the U.K. & Australia (of course). But since this only for the U.S. I’ll post my American faves. Maybe during the week I’ll post the rest I think I may just leave out the U.K. one since there’s only been 1 season so far.

I started watching this show when Season 2 premiered here in Australia in 2006 (we didn’t get Season 1 I don’t know why) and have been watching it since then. I watch the episodes via internet before it’s shown in Australia since we are like a season behind we didn’t get Season 6 here due to low ratings and bad time changes. I have managed to get Season 1 of the internet. But Seasons 2, 4 & 5 are my fave seasons so far of the American version

This is a very hard choice so I decided to limit down to Top 3 of boy and girls but I had to choose my faves. So here they are:

Season 1: Guys Blake McGrath, Craig DeRosa & Artem Chigvinsey

Season 1 Girls: Melody Lacayanga, Ashle Dawson & Snow Urbin

Season 2 Guys: Travis Wall, Ivan Koumaev & Dmitry Chaplin

Season 2 Girls: Allison Holker, Natalie Fotopoulos & Heidi Groskreutz

,

Season 3 Guys: Neil Haskell, Hokuto “Hok” Konishi & Pasha Kovalev

Season 3 Girls: Lacey Schwimmer, Lauren Gottlieb & Jaimie Goodwin

Season 4 Guys: William (Will) Wingfield, Stephen “Twitch” Boss & Mark Kanemura

Season 4 Girls (This one is soooo hard so I picked 4): Katee Shean, Kherington Payne, Courtney Galiano & Chelsie Hightower

Season 5 Guys (once again a hard choice): Brandon Bryant, Ade Obayomi, Evan Kasprzak, Kupono Aweau & Phillip Chbeeb

Season 5 Girls (once again a hard choice): Kayla Radomski, Melissa Sandvig, Janette Manrara & Randi Evans

Season 6 Guys: Jakob Karr, Legacy Perez & Billy Bell (am I allowed to include him? I loved this guy!) if not I’ll pick Phillip Attmore (we need a tap dancer)

Season 6 Girls: Kathryn McCormick, Ellenore Scott & Noelle Marsh

SYTYCD Australia – Dancer Pulls Out Due to Injury Official News (Spoiler!)

I guess for the watchers who watched The Top 10 last week that Jessica Prince was suffering from back problems due to a pelvis injury (as said in the Herald Sun I don’t know if it is true on this problem). Jess Stokes will be taking her place in The Top 8. Here’s the official news from the Ten website:

The So You Think You Can Dance dream has come to an untimely end for Newcastle ballroom dancer Jessica Prince. As seen in last week’s show, she suffered an injury to her lower back muscles which was causing her a great deal of discomfort but like a trooper, she battled through her routines.

Unfortunately, the rigours of the Top 8 choreography schedule have not proved conducive to her recovery and, upon specialist advise, she has left the competition.

As per the rules of the competition, the last one to leave returns, so welcome back Sydney hip hop girl Jess S.

We will be posting an exclusive interview with Jessica P shortly so make sure you check back regularly to hear what happened behind the scenes when she was told the devastating news.

If you want to send a message to Jessica to get well soon you can do so by clicking here

Emilie’s SYTYCD All-Stars

I’m not pretending to be fair here. I didn’t start watching till Season 3, so almost all of my All-Stars are Seasons 3-6. I did lay down some rules on myself.

-No winners (would love to see Sabra return, but my own rule eliminated her)
-I tried to limit it to 1 dancer per season (worked for the guys, not for the girls)
-These are *my* personal favorites, who I think are the most versatile if we’re limited to 10

The Guys
Dmitry Chaplin Season 2, Neil Haskell Season 3, Twitch Boss Season 4, Jason Glover Season 5, Jakob Karr Season 6

The Ladies
Lauren Gottlieb Season 3, Katee Shean Season 4, Kherington Payne Season 4, Kathryn McCormick Season 6, Ellenore Scott Season 6

Who are YOUR All-Stars? I suspect John’s, Amanda’s, McPhee’s and most of your All-Stars would differ from mine, so let me know!

SYTYCD Winner Jeanine Mason Videos

Jeanine was on The Doctors on March 22nd. Check out the cute video below:

And here’s a video of Jeanine dancing with Season 6 (ish) and Season 7’s (?) Billy Bell:

I would love to see Jeanine be one of Season 7’s All-Stars. She’s one of the most dynamic dancers that have been on the show, in my opinion.

Mary Murphy Off So You Think You Can Dance Season 7 and Mia Michaels Back

I’m sure that most of you have read the official announcement on changes to So You Think You Can Dance Season 7 format. I checked over with another great SYTYCD blog, SYTYCDism, and they had a list of changes that includes the details from the official announcement, but also some extra ones about Mary Murphy and Mia as judges (or not judging). Check out their list:

1. There will only be a Top 10 this year. 5 girls, 5 boys.
2. Only one (new) contestant will be eliminated each week.
3. The contestants will not pick their own genres anymore. (~cough~) They will draw photographs of an all-star and that will dictate their style. The all-stars will never be out of their element.
4. 10 contestants from the past six seasons will partner season 7’s Top 10.
5. Only the new contestants will be judged. The all-stars will be asked to leave the stage after the performance.
6. America will vote for their favorite dancer, and one of the bottom 3 will go home.
7. The Top 10 will rotate partners from the all-star dance pool.
8. Mary Murphy will be off the permanent panel and will choreograph and guest judge again.
9. Mia Michaels will be back.
10. The all-stars will not choreograph their routines, they will learn as a normal partner.
11. The finale will be the original format, dancing solos, with each other, groups, etc. No all-stars to our understanding.

The writing has always seemed like Mary Murphy wouldn’t be back as a judge and we’d known that Mia was going to be back on the show in some way. It’s just interesting to me that SYTYCDism stated it as fact since I’d never seen it officially announced that Mary Murphy was done as a full time judge. That’s a very good change in my book.

Of course, the thing that I wonder most about is what’s going to happen to all the great choreographers. Are the choreographers still going to work with the All Star and the New Star dancers? Or will the All Star be the choreographer? I can’t imagine them getting rid of the great choreographers, but there’s also a financial element involved to pay the dancers and the choreographers. This is going to be a lot of fun to watch play out!

SYTYCD Season 7 Changes – Official

Hi y’all! From the official press release I received today (the bold is me):

America’s favorite summer series, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, returns for its seventh season with some exciting new twists, including 10 finalists competing, only one dancer eliminated per week and the return of dancers from previous seasons.

This year, the competition is the toughest it has ever been as the judges will pick only 10 dancers (five guys and five girls) – from the thousands that auditioned – to compete for the title of America ’s Favorite Dancer. During the performance rounds, one finalist will go home weekly. Additionally, the competitors will be partnered each week with a different SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE All-Star dancer – former SYTYCD finalists who are skilled in various styles of dance, including ballroom, hip-hop, jazz and contemporary. The All-Star Partners will be announced shortly.

Be sure to tune in to the two-hour Season Seven premiere Thursday, May 27 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

Oooookay, I’m in!! The All-Star previous season’s dancers did it for me! WHO do you want to be a Season 7 All-Star? What do y’all think?

Our commenter Kenna totally called it, just so you know how awesome y’all are:

# Kenna commented on March 27th, 2010:^

oh my gosh, wouldn’t it be great, and i have no evidence for this its just wishful thinking, but they picked. 10 dancers and then, their partners every week were old favorites. like. Mark, Twitch, Kherington, etc.

i would LOVE that. but again. just wishful thinking. haha

SYTYCD UK – SYTYCD Featured Highly on Pineapple Dance Studios

If anybody has been caught the episodes of Reality Comedy (everything is real not fake I don’t know about Louie though) Pineapple Dance Studios for the last couple of months. SYTYCD is featured highly in the show where pretty much every episode has the banner seen in the hallway to the entrance which I believe that’s where they do the rehearsals for the show.

SYTYCD UK judge Arlene Philipps was featured in the Preview show and in last week’s episode SYTYCD UK dancer Mandy was featured in the episode as part of PDG (a.k.a. Pineapple Dance Group) a professional dance group that was formed by Studio Choreographer Matt.

The Studio is well know for many celebrities including Madonna where she did her ‘Hung Up’ video there.

Keep watching because Mandy may be featured in more episodes and possibly in the finale she may perform in ‘The Live Finale Showcase’ to be filmed at O2 Arena in London where Michael Jackson was supposed to do his last tour there.
