The Twist – Emilie’s Prediction/Suggestion

So, in my Odd and Random – 5/21/10 post, I linked to an interview with some of the All-Stars where Lauren predicted that the SYTYCD powers-that-be still had some surprises in store for everybody, including the All-Stars themselves. I hinted that I had an idea of what one such twist could be.

I know for sure a lot of you will hate this idea. Let’s see if some of you love it.

What if…

Odd and Random SYTYCD – 5/24/10

Courtney Galiano talks to NY Daily News about her first stint on SYTYCD, being an All-Star and what she did between her SYTYCD experiences.

Paula Abdul will serve as Got to Dance‘s lead judge, likely against the 10th season (and the first without Simon Cowell) of American Idol. SYTYCD is mentioned in the 3rd paragraph and Dancing with the Stars in the last.

Mary Murphy talks about the changes in her SYTYCD role and I swear it’s like she’s talking directly to John when she says,

“I would like to come back as a permanent judge … if the fans want me back.” However, she said that while she realizes some people “can’t stand my scream or my enthusiasm, I’m never going to change who I am.”

Jewelry designer Geraldine Fenn describes her favorite t.v. show, SYTYCD – except her description is way off now that everything has changed. But I loved reading this part:

“It’s the elimination part that is the most enjoyable.”

That’s my least favorite part.

Go listen to and rate Courtney Galiano’s song!! She’s performing as Chlod.

Check out Zap2it.com’s smackdown between SYTYCD and Dancing with the Stars. They compare them side by side in terms of judges, hosts, choreographers, career boost ability, drama, watchability, etc. Wonder who won? I won’t tell – you have to check it out!

Kherington IS a Pussycat Doll

My heart kinda sank when I read our reader Dennis’s comment exclaiming:

KHERINGTON PAYNE IS THE NEWEST PUSSYCAT DOLL!!!

I had to know if it’s true or not. Yes, yes, it IS true. I’m glad for Kherington that she’s getting exposure, for sure…. I’ll just leave it at that. What do y’all think?

Odd and Random SYTYCD – 5/21/10

First, you HAVE to check this one out. Can’t stress that enough. Go now. You didn’t go yet? Here’s why you should GO take a look: behind-the-scenes video footage of the photo shoot that brought us the awesome sexy photo from my last post. GREAT quotes from Adam, Cat, Neil and Pasha (standing next to each other!), Courtney, Mark, Twitch, Dominic (with Comfort and Allison) and Lauren. If you STILL need convincing, check out this quote from Lauren:

“When we were contestants, they wouldn’t tell us anything beforehand. And so now we kind of know how it happens. But I know them [the judges/producers]. They’re going to try to throw us for a loop too.”

Anybody got some guess what the surprises might be? Can y’all handle any more surprises and twists this season? I’m not sure I can, though they’ve all been good so far. 🙂 I have a BIG guess on what one new surprise could (or should) be. I’ll post that later, separately.

Here’s one with a shout-out to Season 7 All-Star Courtney Galiano, though you don’t actually see her (unfortunately). I include it because it’s definitely a bit odd. And it’s nice to see people dancing, even if they AREN’T Courtney.

In SYTYCD UK news, last season’s contestant Alastair Postlethwaite will be judging ‘Tarletons Got Talent’.

According to this article, SYTYCD (U.S., that’s us) is Canada’s #1 summer series. When does SYTYCD air? That’s one I haven’t gotten into yet. If it’s anything like SYTYCD UK and AU, I’m in, in, in. I know many of you are already on board.

Speaking of SYTYCD Canada, some former contestants will appear in the tv movie Turn the Beat Around, including Season 1 finalists: Romina D’Ugo, Miles Faber and Natalli Reznik. Check out this quote, from Seventeen magazine:

If you loved movies like Step Up, Save The Last Dance, and Center Stage, then you’ll do backflips for Turn The Beat Around.

I wonder how (if) we can see that movie here in the States?

There’s some great quotes from Nigel in this Zap2it.com blog, but I don’t like the opening lines:

“You never heard of the dancers before, and likely won’t again, but the raw talent on Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” blows away competitors on other dance shows.”

Okay, the second half of that sentence is okay. But having All-Stars in SYTYCD Season 7 is clearly meant to help rectify any potential “likely won’t again” situations.

Here’s an Instyle interview with Cat about her vintage-inspired jewelry collection for QVC. You really should check it out – I love what Cat says about her doing the “leg work” for folks who might find vintage hunting intimidating (like me) but do like the look.

Here’s an interview Lauren did a little while ago with Zap2it.com about her Dancing with the Stars and American Idol favorites. She confesses that she has to watch everything dance on t.v. 🙂 Me too, Lauren.

And here’s another older piece about Kherington Payne and Jonathan Platero joining the cast of a production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Enjoy all the random and odd!

All-Star Cast Photo!!!

Our friends at SYTYCDism posted a photo of the All-Star cast earlier today. Check it out:

They are (from left to right, front to back): Twitch, Lauren, Mark and Kathryn; Comfort, Anya, Neil, Courney, our gorgeous Cat in the center, Pasha, Dominic, Allison and last, but not at all least, Ade. As if you don’t know your All-Stars!!!

One of my favorite parts of the picture, besides how dead sexy everybody looks, is that they put the shortest (Courtney) next to leggy Cat Deely. So cute.

Who are you most excited to see dance again??

SYTYCD Season 7 All-Star Bios

The Season 7 All-Stars have shiny, awesome bios up now on the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE page.

You think you know the All-Stars?

Did you know that Twitch choreographed for The Cheetah Girls?

Or that Comfort also writes and is working on a recording career?

Or that Courtney played Jeanette” as a dancer in “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel”?

Bet you knew that Anya was the first dancer to get a ticket on the “hot tamale train.” Ok, that’s not in her bio, but that’s what Mary told me when I interviewed her last year.

I didn’t know that Lauren assisted Tyce Diorio with Season 2 before she was even on the show herself (Season 3), or that she also assisted Tobey Maguire for his role in “Spider-Man 2.”

I was pleased and happy to see Neil in “American Mall” after he was on SYTYCD – did you know he was in that cheesy and campy (in a good way) flick?

I didn’t know very much about Allison, so I thought it was cool that she performed with Earth, Wind and Fire and in the 2002 Olympics’s opening and closing ceremonies.

Everybody knows Mark‘s been touring with Lady Gaga, but who knew that he’s performed in “The Nutcracker,” “Sweet Charity,” “The King and I,” “Grease,” “Tommy” and “Gypsy”?

Pasha‘s appeared on the trifecta of tv dance shows – “SYTYCD,” “Dancing with the Stars” and “Superstars of Dance.”

I didn’t know Kathryn was in last year’s “Fame” remake – did you?

During Season 6, my mom loved Ade and he’s remained popular with the ladies ever since – performing with Beyonce, Rihanna and Alicia Keys.

Everyone knows Dominic is a goofball, but the last line of his bio confirms it: “In his down time, he says he likes to play golf and ping-pong and eat Spam while listening to Justin Bieber.”

Enjoy all the bios!!!

SYTYCD – Official FOX Press Release & 2 More Promos

tWitch is a Season 7 All-Star Season 7 is rapidly approaching and, as you probably know, the season includes 12 All-Stars in addition to 10 new competitors. If you’re wondering what an all-star is and how it will impact Season 7, you’ve come to the right place!

An all-star is a former So You Think You Can Dance finalist who is “dominant in their genre of dance,” Nigel Lythgoe stated in a recent press call. “The competitors, instead of drawing the genre of dance out of the hat, will draw a photograph of one of the all-stars and that will dictate the genre of dance that they’re going to be dancing.” For example, instead of a Season 7 competitor pulling out the word “Hip Hop” from a hat, they’d pull out a photo of tWitch, which means they’ll be performing some type of Hip Hop dance (including krump, pop locking, and more). Then the Season 7 finalist will partner up with tWitch for the week and the two will learn choreography from one of the show’s choreographers, such as Lil C.

The all-stars will not be choreographing and they will not be judged. They will merely be partnering one of the Season 7 competitors. In addition, the competitors will draw a different partner of the opposite gender each week, which means their style of dance will change each week.

Out of the thousands of dancers who auditioned for Season 7, only 10 will be selected for the show: just five guys and five girls. Only one competitor will leave each week, based on who received the fewest votes from the public’s calls. That means that not every all-star will dance each week, but they will always remain in the pool of possible partners.

Why is the show making these changes to Season 7? Nigel answered, “We do a tour and we can’t ever really re-invest in our dancers. We try and bring some of them back as choreographers, but to be able to do this and use our own stars I think was a fabulous idea. So the only reason we’re doing it now is the fact that it’s a great idea that no one’s really thought of before. I’m so excited by it, to be frank.” Another goal of the new format is that with only 10 competitors, we’ll get to know the new finalists even better. Also, the dancer will be showed off well, since they’ll be partnered by an expert in each genre.

The finale will be a little different this season. Instead of a Top 4 or Top 6 competing for the title of “America’s Favorite Dancer,” just two or three will dance. Nigel explained, “They’ll be partnering up with the all stars all season long up until the finale, when we go back to the original format, where they dance with each other, dance solos, and so on.”

So You Think You Can Dance – Live?

Wow, I just read that SYTYCD Season 7 is going to have not just live results shows, but PERFORMANCE shows will be live as well. Incredible!

Check out the article linked above. It has great mini-interviews with Nigel, Mia, Adam, Cat and Twitch!

What do you think about this new change? Are you excited that there doesn’t seem to be any end to the “newness” of Season 7? Or are you over it? I gotta admit that while I’m a little over the constant trickle of new information, I have loved almost all of the announced changes. I wasn’t loving the “yes/no at the contestants’ home” change, but after reading this article, it’s sounding better and better.

Adam Shankman and Miley Cyrus Dance…

I feel weird about posting this, but it IS SYTYCD news. Wonder if I should file it under “odd and random.”

TMZ and Korbi (who I love) at Zap2it.com reported that Miley gave Adam a “lap dance” at the Last Song wrap party. And there’s video (you can watch at the link above).

After watching it, John said, “Just creepy.” If it were anyone else but Adam, I’d probably agree. I mostly think this was a case of people who love to dance just dancing without realizing the awkward/creepy/inappropriateness of their actions. Because, they probably didn’t expect there to be video.

Plus, there’s always inappropriateness at wrap parties. Seriously. As I said to John:

(5:44:42 PM): i think they’re just close
(5:44:43 PM): and they’re dancing
(5:44:59 PM): and they’re not attaching sexuality to their actions
(5:45:05 PM): because he’s gay and she’s illegal

I think we treat Miley as an adult in so many ways – the decisions she makes about her future, the amount of money she brings in – and then we act horrified when she acts adult-like in terms of her sexuality and her behavior. I call hypocrisy. Though Adam probably should’ve known better. Seriously.

What do y’all think?
