Top 8 now Top 6 Thoughts
I wanted to do a thoughts post tonight for two reasons. The first reason being I want to know which dances/dancers were your favorites. Second I want to talk about the All Stars and how fantastic they were tonight.
When Cat made the announcement last week that the All Stars would not only be dancing but also choreographing, I was excited. Once the All Stars were announced the excitement level went up.
So I guess I’ll start by saying I loved everything about tonight, from seeing Travis dance on that stage again to Twitch and his super hero hip hop. I’m only going give my thoughts on a few, the rest will be a part of my power rankings tomorrow.
Allison: So why hasn’t she choreographed for the show before now…I really don’t know. I really hope we get to see more of her work in the future.
Courtney: Her style of choreography is how I would probably choreograph if I was actually any good at it. I really like the lifts and even that last little lift at the end.
Mark: GaGa would be proud. Everything about this screamed Mark, and I loved every minute of it. He has always been one of my favorites and I can’t wait to see what else we will see from him in the future.
Travis: I think many will agree with me it was great to see Travis dance on that stage again. I agree with the judges he is only going to continue to go up in his career. Also the next time his company Shaping Sound tours I’m buying a ticket to go see it.
So let me know what you thought of tonight’s SYTYCD.
I love many of these All-Stars as dancers, but not so much choreographers. The routines weren’t nearly as good compared to last week in my opinion. Love love LOVE Mark and Travis’ routines, however. Oh, and Mia Michaels? WHAT? SO glad she finally choreographed something this season.
In other thoughts, probably the most conflicted I’ve felt about an elimination this season. I’ve been waiting for Jenna to go home for probably a month, but it’s a real bummer she went out after doing that routine. And if we’re talking about technical talent, Fik-shun should be the one going home instead of Tucker – but it’s like the judges were saying, there’s just something about his dancing that makes him interesting to watch. You can tell he’s completely honed in during the routine every single time. I think it’s a damn shame that Tucker’s gone though.
And finally, I think Amy cemented herself as the best dancer still left in the competition.
Totally understand the Jenna thing and it finally hit me what was bugging me about her…it was her facial expressions that weren’t believable.
I really didn’t think Tucker was going to be eliminated. It stinks but in the end we’ve seen those that haven’t won and have gone on to have a great career.
What happened to Aaron in Mia’s Opening number? He was nowhere to be found. Anybody know what happened?
He has a shoulder injury. He sent out a message on twitter say for the sake of his shoulder he was pulled from the piece. Not sure of anything else but that’s what I saw.
My theory, which is mine. This was the last chance for the judges to shape the outcome. From now on, it’s audience votes only. So even though the judges (and choreographers) might have thought Jenna and Tucker were both more skilled than Hayley and Fik-shun, there would have been no point in putting Jenna and Tucker through to the top six when they knew that the audience just wasn’t connecting with them.
I was super impressed that Paul could do a hip-hop routine with Comfort and I wasn’t watching her all the time. He really did a great job! And even though Jasmine has been my choice all along, Amy blew me away last night.
I really hope that Aaron is OK.
@Veronique: good theory, I was hoping the show would give more reason because it was abundantly clear that Jenna out-danced Hayley Tuesday night and Tucker was a notch better than Fik Shun in his routine. Even in solos, I thought Jenna was better than Hayley and Tucker was better than Fik Shun. I think they sent Jenna home thinking she will go home anyways in the next week (which isn’t necessary after that awesome performance). Fik shun on the other hand has been their darling, the sheer amount of screen time that guy has got through the competition (*cough* Vegas week *cough*) shows how much they love the guy.
In terms of choreography I hope Allison, Courtenay, Comfort and Mark come back for seconds. All 4 did a great job making their partners memorable and this is especially huge with Allison who did a brilliant job with Fik Shun. The only choreographer who wasn’t all that great to me was Twitch, which is ironic because I thought he would be the best at it.
In order for me from best to least. Mark, Travis, Courtney, Chelsie, Allison, Comfort, Dmitry, and Twitch. I out Chelsie in the middle of Courtney and Allison. I liked what Courtney did. I liked what Allison did but, I didn’t feel it was Fik-shun’s best performance, had Aaron been 100%. That jive would have been a lot better. He would have been able to handle Chelsie better. Not too crazy about Rumba’s. That is the one dance style that makes me uncomfortable watching.
